Senior Assisted Living Facilities in Ventura County

Senior Assisted Living Facilities in Ventura County

This information is intended to provide a starting point and general guidance for folks looking for senior living and assisted living choices other than in senior mobile home parks in Ventura County.
I have organized the information into several sections which include the affordable housing link below, followed by more expanded sections on Senior Referral Services and Assisted Living. Finally, I have included answers to some of the more common questions concerning senior living in a General Information Section. I hope you find this information useful.

1)    Affordable Housing in Ventura County  -  http://www.ahacv.org/index.shtml
This links with many additional city and county agencies.

2)    Free Seniors Referral Services
There are many online services which provide pictures and information about many of the retirement communities which serve seniors. These services help people choose between the  numerous senior communities, depending on their own special needs and pocketbooks. Folks with no problems, folks in need of assisted living facilities, and folks with severe medical problems can all find help in this section. Generally, there is no fee for these services. I have picked only a few of them. Just google “assisted living” and you will find additional websites.

3)     Seniors/Assisted Living Communities
Senior communities often have their own websites and direct contact information. I have just listed a small sampling of the Senior Communities in Camarillo and in Ventura. There are many facility types ranging from converted homes serving 6 clients – up to full size senior community developments offering a broad range of needs services.  As an example, Senior Care Authority lists 202 facilities in Ventura County and does not include Moorpark or Santa Paula on its’ home page listings. What I’m including is just a small sampling of the home facilities available.

4)     General Information Section
This section attempts to answer many frequently asked questions about senior living.
None of the information presented here is intended as a personal endorsement for any of the businesses mentioned and I make no claims as to the accuracy or comprehensiveness of the information I researched online.
There are many clickable links in this information, but some require you to hold the CTRL Key down while clicking the link.

Ocean Breeze Estates is an assisted living facility in Camarillo, CA that offers residents independent living options and daily support services. Contact Ocean Breeze Estates for more details on housing, services, and rates.
We took a tour of the retirement homes at Ocean Breeze Estates in Camarillo, CA at the suggestion of friends who knew someone who lived there and was very happy. We were immediately struck by the quaintness of the area. It seemed safe and secure, yet very private. We could see that our grandmother would have no trouble getting around the single-story homes and on the adjacent streets.
Each home has just 6 beds, which makes the space available per resident more than adequate. Each place had a lovely garden, which residents are encouraged to tend, some with vegetables. Our grandmother used to grow tomatoes, green beans and many other things in her garden and it looks like she can still do that if she desires. The backyards also had places to barbeque, with plenty of room for guests.
Each home had a fireplace, hardwood floors and beautiful furnishings. Some have eat-in kitchens which make meals look intimate and inviting.
There is Internet, wide screen TVs and cable in each home. Activities include just about everything that one could think of. They also have karaoke which looked like a lot of fun. The kitchens were large and spacious. This type of communal living looked ideal for someone like our grandmother, who prefers to be around more people and only has ambulatory issues. We'd thought of placing her somewhere that she could have her own apartment, but this seems like a much better idea.

It really sounds like there are a lot of potential options that are available to those who are looking to go into a retirement home. Something that really stood out as well was that you mentioned all the different kind of accommodations that would be able to help adapt to the retirement home feel. I personally that can be difficult, but being able to have a home that is welcoming can definitely make a difference. Thank you for sharing. http://www.greenviewlodge.com/living_areas.html

My son has Down's Syndrome and is getting old enough to want to live on his own. This is a really scary idea to me. However, he is determined, so I want to help him find a great independent living situation that would work with his disability. He is obviously a younger guy, so I hope to find a facility that can be a good fit for him.

Hello Thorngren ,

I’ve really enjoyed reading your blog over the past year. I stumbled upon it when got more focused on the problems that seniors have with mobility and injuries, and I was immediately hooked by your focus on assisted living. When dealing with senior's like my grandparents and their friends, it was no surprise to see the same challenges facing them every day. One of the biggest problems I notice with my grandparents is their mobility starting to slow down.

I currently am working with a team that has a project set to launch in the next month on Kickstarter called the step2rest (www.step2rest.com ). The creator is a nurse who is focused on helping keep the senior population safe in their home, I thought I might share it with you.

Would you be interested in doing a interview/guest entry/review on him and the project for your blog? My hope is that it would add value to your audience, especially since it’s in line with helping people reduce their risk of falls and remain independent as long as possible.

If you'd prefer to review the final copy of the product, I would be happy to send you additional information or perform a demo with you privately. Thanks for your time, and I look forward to future entries about the problems seniors face in their home.

We also would be willing/open to making a blog entry that you could post as well. Look forward to hearing your feedback. You can contact my friend beneath

Thanks for your comments and kind words Vince. Senior living is not for the weak as we continually see the cost of living in Ventura skyrocket. I'd be happy to read more about your organization and what it is doing.

I am almost 65 myself and many of my real estate clients are seniors struggling to find their way. Despite the needs of the many, new developments still seem to focus on the well healed buyers rather than a true cross section of our population.

Sorry this took so long, but I rarely check comments - I didn't think anyone ever read my stuff!

take care Vince,
